Thou wilt shew me the path of life: |

/\^/\ MyersDaily Tuesday, July 22, 2025 Photographers, we need to stop calling ourselves “content creators” or even “media” and call ourselves artists! The attitude of a photographer being a “content creator” shares a common philosophy with the worst decision in Supreme Court history for artists, the so-called “Zacchini v. Scripps-Howard Broadcasting Co.” case. This case mistakenly took the view that the photographs, video, etc., of anything are not the creations of nor a part of the rights from free speech by artists who create them. But rather, this case implied that photos merely represent the capturing or recording of content, and so logically the value and existence of photos are already produced in essence merely by the fact of some event being put on by some party of people participating in and/or managing the event. Thus, according to this evil court case, photographs and video and media coverage of an event can be controlled and owned and sold not by artists who truly create the photos, but by the managers of the event. According to the false and evil outcome of the court case, the photos exist in essence not by artistry of artists, but by the creation of the content, and obtaining the photos is merely a matter of allowing people pushing buttons called content creators instead of artists to sit in special spots where they can capture the content being produced not by themselves as artists at all, but by the event itself. This is the most ridiculous and demeaning thing that can ever possibly be thought or said about those beautiful kindred spirits behind cameras who have given their lives and fortunes to mastering the craft of creation, and who are artists and creators in the deepest possible sense of the dictionary. This evil court case was decided by the narrowest possible margin of only one vote. Incredibly sadly, this one case, issued by a margin of only one vote, is also primarily behind all of the evil and corruption in athletics, including the abuse of and selling into slavery of athletes for the past 48 years. Just to show you how evil and twisted the thinking of these men was, eight of these nine Supreme Court justices were the same ones who gave us the most evil court decision in all of history, not just for artists, but for all of reality. The “Zacchini v. Scripps-Howard Broadcasting Co.” logic and outcome were infinitely wrong to begin with, and are still just as wrong today. Calling yourself a “content creator” buys into this evil philosophy that photography is not the real art, but that the real art in pictures is merely coming up with “stuff” to put in front of the camera, a production or some sort of event. But until the end of eternity we need to keep telling the infinite truth that the contents of a photo, the things in front of a camera, the game being played, those are not what a photographer is or what a photographer does. The art a photographer creates is from their own soul, something that transcends it all, something completely unique and distinct, something that does not exist intrinsically by the mere happening of an event or the mere existence of content. We are not content creators. We are not event managers. We are not performers. We are something different. We are artists. Sincerely, Joseph Myers
